Faux Metal

Faux Metal is one of the techniques we'll be doing at my upcoming "Embossing Options" class. The idea of the class is that you'll learn a few different ways to do embossing so that your cards have greater variety. I'm a big fan of silver and blue together, so I was happy with the way this card turned out!

Supplies Used

Stamps: Priceless, Fresh Cuts, So Swirly wheel

Ink: Baja Breeze

Cardstock: Whisper White, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze.

Accessories: Silver embossing powder, Baja ribbon, Silver brads, punches, heat tool.

Starry Starry Snow

This card was so quick to make. My star punches will certainly be getting a work out this Christmas! Here I've punched some stars from Rose Red prints paper, and for the centre I've used the "Snow Flurries" stamp set (which is 20% off this month - only $16.76) I know we don't get snow here in Australia at Christmas time, but I still love snowflake images.

The background was also quick, as I just wheeled the So Swirly wheel across the Pomegranate cardstock. The colour combination is my favourite for Christmas this year - Purely Pomegranate, Soft Sky and Wild Wasabi. Too easy!

Christmas Projects

Tonight is the first of my Christmas Projects class, which I'm looking forward to! Making 3D items is something I really enjoy doing, so I thought I'd show you a picture of what we're making.

There's a double-pocket bag, a CD gift box (based on Makeesha Byl 's  example), a triangle box and a photo wallet. All the projects use papers and colours based on the Holiday Harmony range of Designer Series papers, which can be found in the Spring Mini Catalogue.It should be a fun class!

O Christmas Tree...

The cards for my next Christmas card Stamping Session seem to have a common denominator - Christmas trees! If you'd like to get started with your Christmas cards (it is almost October, after all!) then please come along to my next Christmas card class.

Embossing

Way back when I was a really beginner stamper, embossing was one of the techniques I learnt that really wowed me. I love the magical way the heat fuses the embossing powder together to make the image raised and shiny. I still love embossing, and so on this card I embossed the So Swirly wheel in silver, by using VersaMark to stamp the image, then sprinkling silver embossing powder over it. I also embossed the image from Snow Flurries to use as the flower centre, using the "Faux Metal" technique, which is basically layers of embossing.

The colours used for this card are Purely Pomegranate, Whisper White and Basic Black, with silver. The flower petals are from Pick a Petal. If you're keen to learn more about embossing or faux metal, then let me know and I can organise a class or workshop for you!

Cinderella

I'm not sure if you know the song Cinderella by Steve Curtis Chapman, but that song was the inspiration for this scrapbooking page. It's a lovely song about how quickly children grow up, and how we should make time to dance and play with them while we can. It always makes me cry when I hear it!

The other thing I wanted to try with this layout was a hat pin from the Stampin' Up! Pretties kit. I used a couple of beads on the hat pin and threaded it through some Taffeta ribbon. I also used two flowers from the Pretties kit, one of which I dyed with Regal Rose ink. So easy to do!

The title was done using the Defining Alphabet, with some sparkly Dazzling Diamonds added. Although it's a bit tricky to see from the pictures, I used textured River Rock cardstock for the base of the layout, and papers from the Berry Bliss paper range. The other part of the layout that is hard to see is the So Swirly wheel stamped in white along the bottom of the cardstock. I think the colours and textures of the layout work well with the dancing photos of my 3 year old Cinderella!
