Happily Ever After

Last weekend we we fortunate enough to be invited to the wedding of the lovely Kate and Duncan. Weddings are such a significant occasion, so I always feel like it's a great privilege to be invited to share in them!

Obviously, I needed to make a Wedding card. Luckily I had received some preview stamps from the new Stampin' Up! Spring Mini Catalogue, which begins in August. This stamp set, Always, seemed perfect for the occasion. I made up a few different cards because I couldn't get them to look exactly as I wanted, so I kept experimenting.

To get the overlapping heart images, I stamped and embossed one heart, then masked it with a post-it note, and stamped the second heart. I wanted to keep the colour scheme classic and elegant, so went with Whisper White, Soft Sky and silver embossing powder. The white half pearls are from the pretties kit, and the "always" greeting is layered using the circle punches and scallop circle punch.

The second card is similar, but also uses the Linen background stamp and the word "Cherish" (sorry, it's a bit obscured down the bottom!) from the Warm Words set. I popped up the little flowers on dimensionals to add some depth to the card.

Sweet Faces

I started this layout with an idea from Alana's blog. She had used an 8x 8 page from the Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration catalogue as the basis of her 12 x 12 layout, so I decided to try the same thing.

There was a lot of journalling that I wanted to fit onto the layout, so I typed this up so that I had more control over its size (and because my handwriting's not great, anyway!) I've used the SAB set "Friendship Blooms", which you can get free if you spend $100, for the flowers and to create the piece of white background paper that is mounted behind the journalling. The heading is done with the Big Deal Alphabet, and I cut the 18 from the numbers on a sheet of the Treehouse designer series paper. The colours of the layout are Old Olive, Certainly Celery, Rose Red, Pretty in Pink and Bashful Blue.

I also wanted to show you a card that I made to welcome a friend's new baby girl. I used the "All in the Family" set, which was watercoloured using markers and inks with an aqua painter. Colouring in is so much fun! The greeting is from "Warm Words" and I've also used the Linen background stamp. The hearts stamped on the Regal Rose strip are from "Love Matters", which is in the Summer Mini Catalogue . Colours are Pretty in Pink, Certainly Celery and Regal Rose. I created the scalloped edge with the corner rounder punch, and then highlighted it with the white gel pen. I hope they like it!

Birthday Beauty

Sometimes I get a mental blank when it comes to colour choice. I look at all my different colours of card, and can't decide what goes together, or what will look good, or how many colours are too many. Such was the case when I was making this card! So, I turned to the Stampin' Up! Colour Wheel, and it did the work for me! I decided I wanted to use Regal Rose to watercolour the girl's dress, so I looked up Regal Rose on the wheel and it directed me to Almost Amethyst and Apricot Appeal as coordinating colours for Regal Rose. I don't think I've ever used Apricot Appeal before, so I was dubious, but I like how the combination turned out!

The stamps are from the Birthday Beauty stamp set, and I've stamped it onto Watercolour paper then watercoloured with inks and Soft Subtles markers. The Regal Rose strip and Amethyst background have been stamped with the Linen background stamp to give the card a textured look. I've also added some Dazzling Diamonds to the girl's dress, as every beauty queen needs bling!
