Scrapbooking Alice

I've really been enjoying scrapbooking through January - so much so that when I tried to make some cards the other day I was a bit lost about how to start!

Duck's work Christmas party had an Alice in Wonderland theme this year. We had some great costumes to wear {thanks so much, Sylvie & Nat for the loans!} but because it was so dark inside the venue the photos weren't fantastic. I still wanted to use them, though, so decided to print them quite small. This sketch from Big Picture Classes worked well for them, and I stamped and embossed some hearts on the background paper, then sprayed and spritzed over the top of that with Smooch Spritz and a marker. I also used the Artistic Etchings and Notably Ornate stamp sets to create my journalling panel and a few embellishments. This page was a little bit different for me, but I loved how it turned out!

French Day

Each year Felicity's school celebrates "French Day". Last year they held a French themed parade, so Felicity dressed up as Queen Celeste, from the Babar the Elephant stories. I don't think people immediately realised why she was an elephant for a French parade, but she got used to explaining it!

It's fantastic for me that Stampin' Up! has some lovely French style stamps at the moment, so I used En Francais to stamp the French script writing for my title letters, and Artistic Etchings to create some accents for the page. Rather than using the traditional bright red, white and blue, I was able to tone these colours down by using Riding Hood Red and Not Quite Navy, which was better for the colour range in my photos. Some coordinating ribbon and dsp, plus a few vintage style trinkets finished off the page!

 

 

Hey Presto!

I'm back! I'm sure that you've missed me out here in the blog world, right? One of my resolutions for 2011 was to update my website more regularly. Starting that in February is fine - it's only a little way into the New Year!

So, onto the card, which is far more interesting that my musings about life... as you'll know if you read my newsletter, my favourite product from Stampin' Up!'s Summer Mini Catalogue is the Presto Patterns paper. It's 12 x 12 patterned paper that is white, with white embossing. This means that you can add any colour ink to it, which brings up the embossed white design. So, on this card, the diagonal pattern piece is actually white that has been sponged with Not Quite Navy ink mixed with a little White Shimmer paint. It's a lovely sparkly blue in real life!

I've used two vintage style stamp sets on this card: Artistic Etchings and Notably Ornate. I really like the way these two sets combine together. I also added some Gold Smooch Spritz for some more subtle sparkle, too. I'm loving the Smooch Spritz as well, and am finding it hard not to spritz everything I'm working on at the moment!

Vintage Carousel

 At Darling Harbour in Sydney there's a beautiful vintage-style carousel. I've had these photos sitting around for a little while, and when I saw the Music Note paper in the "Newsprint" DSP pack, I thought that it would be perfect for this page. I wanted to fit all 5 photos on the page, so it's a little crowded, but I thought that was better than leaving one off and then having that single photo kicking around on my desk waiting to be used by itself!

I also used some of the music dsp to create the scallop flower accent. It's a little hard to see in my dodgy photo of the page, but there's also an edge done with the new "Scallop Trim" border punch, which is available in the new Idea Book and Catalogue.
