Hopkins has always been one of my favourite poets. He is also a favourite of my friend Cath, so I thought it was pretty amusing when Cath named one of her chickens after the poet, in honour of his poem, "Pied Beauty".
When Felicity was first introduced to Hopkins, she couldn't get her head around this grand name, so ended up calling the chicken "Popcorn". Hopkins, who has a sense of her own worth, was unimpressed by this, but in our family, the name has stuck.
The perfect material for a scrapbook page - I get a chance to record an amusing family story, along with one of my favourite poems!
